The Highwood Memorial Centre, originally built in 1942, and located in its present location as a community centre since 1947 has been a meeting place for the town and surrounding communities for 59 years. It was a 13,500 square foot structure built at a time when High River's population was approximately 2,000 people. In the 1960's the kitchen was added to the building bringing it up to its present size of 14,757 square feet.

The Highwood Memorial Centre has been the heart of the town, located centrally and used by every citizen in the area in some capacity or another. The building has had a colorful history and has always been an integral part of the community. Within the centre have been: elections, blood donor clinics, weddings, funerals, bingos, dances, fund

raisers Christmas concerts and parties, new year's eve galas, graduations, the meeting place for numerous service clubs, a training centre for many companies, hearing aid clinics and more.

The Highwood Memorial Centre has been carefully maintained both esthetically and physically, respectful of the age and history that the building represents.
